Fort Lauderdale By The Sea

FILED IN: Travel

I live in North Florida. The beaches here are some of the most beautiful in the world. Untouched dunes covered in delicate sea oats stand guard at the entrance to the beach and white sand, as fine as powdered sugar, lays as a blank canvas for foot prints and sand angels. Nothing compares to it.

But, oh does South Florida have its charms. South Florida is like an escape to another place and another time. The neon lights and flat-roofed buildings are like stepping into an episode of Miami Vice, while the tropical flowers and bright hues look like a watercolor paint palette. Every time I make the 5 or 6 hour drive down, my body feels rejuvenated. I’ve grown up in the sunshine state- lived here my entire life, but a South Florida sunset streaming behind a line of royal palms will never cease to take my breath away. I feel as though I see the earth again for the first time. My eyes are re-opened over and over.

Here’s what I saw one very windy evening on the Fort Lauderdale beach with my friend Erica:

The royal palms are beautiful. So tall and straight. The coconut palms are pretty too, but the royal palms are so strong looking! Thanks for this post.
