I grew up on the coast of central Florida, in a small town that most people only know of because they’ve driven through it. There’s not much to do there. There’s no Starbucks or Target, Chipotle or even a shopping mall! But there are rivers to fish, springs to swim and float down. There are seafood shacks and sunsets that’ll make you pull your car over.
I miss that little town. Most days, I’d trade my grande iced coffee for a sable palm sky without question. My hair craves the breeze that blows in off the gulf, and my toes miss the saltwater.
Last weekend, Emily and I drove to another small coastal town, Apalachicola. Sitting on the edge of Florida’s panhandle in an area known as the Forgotten Coast, Apalachicola is famous for its oysters and beloved for its quaint maritime charm. We brought a picnic and parked on the side of the road just in time to catch the sunset. As usual, I couldn’t turn down an opportunity to photograph Emily (If you follow along, you know she’s no stranger to this journal – here, here, and here). And, as usual, the Florida coast did not disappoint.
Here’s what I saw on an evening in Apalachicola:
This is post is making me long for Florida’s west coast. And Emily is stunning! Nice job Carolyn!
