At a recent family shoot, I caught the below moment between Julia and her mother Rhodora, or “Dora” for short. As I was editing their full gallery, I kept coming back to this image. Julia’s parents were visiting from California and she wanted to have family photos taken while they were in town, which I absolutely loved! In between various groupings and poses I caught this moment. Maybe it’s because as the photographer, I know this wasn’t staged. Mostly, I think it’s the expression on Dora’s face that keeps grabbing my attention. Julia is a grown woman, married with four children of her own. She is a mother, but, she is still Dora’s daughter.
I have the privilege of photographing a lot of newborn sessions, and my favorite images are always those of the mother gazing down toward her new little bundle of joy. Yet, even when that little bundle of joy grows into a mature woman, that look of love never fades. I’m grateful for the opportunity to both witness and capture that affection.
